Toyota 4Runner: Abnormal Temperature Inside ID1 Tire (C2165/65-C2169/69)

Toyota 4Runner Service Manual / Suspension / Tire Pressure Monitoring / Tire Pressure Warning System / Abnormal Temperature Inside ID1 Tire (C2165/65-C2169/69)

DESCRIPTION

Each tire pressure warning valve and transmitter measures the internal temperature of its tire as well as the tire pressure and transmits the information to the tire pressure warning ECU along with the transmitter ID. If the measured temperature is out of the specified range, the tire pressure warning ECU recognizes it as a malfunction and stores DTCs, and the tire pressure warning light blinks for 1 minute and then remains on.

The temperature inside the tire is detected as being higher than 119°C (246°F) 255 times consecutively.

  • Tire pressure warning ECU
  • *: w/ Spare Tire Pressure Warning Valve and Transmitter

HINT:

It is necessary to perform the procedure to identify the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter that is malfunctioning because it cannot be identified by the output DTC.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

NOTICE:

  • When replacing the tire pressure warning ECU, read the IDs stored in the old ECU using the Techstream and note them down before removal.
  • It is necessary to perform registration of the transmitter IDs into the tire pressure warning ECU after the ECU and/or the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter has been replaced (See page ).

PROCEDURE

1.

CHECK TIRES

(a) Check that the tires are not flat and have no indication of air pressure drop.

OK:

Tires are normal.

HINT:

If a tire is damaged, the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter may also have been damaged at the same time.

2.

IDENTIFY TRANSMITTER CORRESPONDING TO DTC

(a) Set the tire pressure of all tires to the specified value (See page ).

(b) Turn the ignition switch off.

(c) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(d) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(e) Turn the Techstream on.

(f) Enter the following menus: Chassis / Tire Pressure Monitor / Data List.

(g) Check the "ID Tire Inflation Pressure" data for each wheel using the Techstream.

(h) Rapidly reduce the tire pressure of each tire by at least 40 kPa (0.4 kgf/cm2, 5.8 psi) within 30 seconds.

(i) Check the Data List.
