Toyota 4Runner: Operation Check

OPERATION CHECK

1. CHECK WINDOW LOCK SWITCH

HINT:

Before performing the window lock switch operation check, make sure that the window lock switch is off (the switch is not pushed in).

(a) Check that the front passenger side power window, rear power windows and back door power window cannot be operated when the window lock switch of the multiplex network master switch is pressed.

OK:

Operation of front passenger side power window, rear power windows and back door power window is disabled.

(b) Check that the front passenger side power window, rear power windows and back door power window can be operated when the window lock switch is pressed again.

OK:

Front passenger side power window, rear power windows and back door power window can be operated.

2. CHECK MANUAL UP/DOWN FUNCTION

(a) Check that the driver side power window operates as follows:

(a) Check that the driver side power window operates as follows:

(a) Check that the front passenger side window and rear power windows operate as follows:

6. CHECK JAM PROTECTION FUNCTION

(a) Check the basic function.

CAUTION:

Do not put your fingers between the door frame and door glass to check functions. Also, prevent any part of your body from being caught during inspection.

HINT:

The jam protection function is operative during both the auto up and manual up operation while the engine is running or the ignition switch is ON, and also for 43 seconds after the ignition switch is turned off.

(1) Fully open the window.

(2) Hold a thick book wrapped with cloth in the position shown in the illustration.

(3) Operate the auto up or manual up function to check that the power window goes down when the window contacts the book, and stops when the opening reaches approximately 125 mm (4.92 in.) (auto up function) or 30 mm (1.18 in.) (manual up function) or until approximately 5 seconds have elapsed.

HINT:

  • After the jam protection function has operated when an auto up or manual up operation was performed, the jam protection function will not operate if the manual up operation is performed again within approximately 4 seconds.
  • After the catch protection function has operated when an auto down or manual down operation was performed, the jam protection function will not operate if the manual up operation is performed within approximately 4 seconds.

(4) While the power window is moving down, check that the door glass cannot be moved up even when the power window regulator switch is used.

7. CHECK CATCH PROTECTION FUNCTION

(a) Check the basic function.

HINT:

The catch protection function is operative during both the auto down and manual down operations while the engine is running or the ignition switch is ON, and also for 43 seconds after the ignition switch is turned off.

(b) Fully close all of the power windows.

(c) Operate the auto down or manual down function to open the power window, grasp the upper edge of the door glass with one or two hands and check that the power window stops.


HINT:

After the catch protection function has operated when an auto down or manual down operation was performed, the catch protection function will not operate if the manual down operation is performed again within approximately 4 seconds.

8. CHECK KEY-OFF OPERATION FUNCTION

(a) Check that all the power windows can be operated with the multiplex network master switch assembly and back door power window regulator switch assembly after the ignition switch is turned off.

(b) Check that the key-off operation function does not operate after a front door is opened.

(c) Check that none of the power windows can be operated after more than approximately 43 seconds have elapsed since the ignition switch was turned off.

9. CHECK KEY-LINKED FUNCTION USING DRIVER SIDE DOOR KEY CYLINDER

HINT:

This inspection is possible only when the key-linked open and close function is set to ON through the customize function using the Techstream (the default setting is OFF).

(a) Check that all power windows (except back door power window) operate as follows:

10. CHECK KEY-LINKED FUNCTION USING BACK DOOR KEY CYLINDER

(a) Check that back door power windows operate as follows:

11. CHECK WIRELESS TRANSMITTER-LINKED FUNCTION

HINT:

This inspection is possible only when the wireless transmitter-linked open and close function is set to ON through the customize function using the Techstream (the default setting is OFF).

(a) Check that all power windows operate as follows when operating the transmitter:

12. CHECK SMART-LINKED FUNCTION

HINT:

This inspection is possible only when the wireless transmitter-linked open and close function is set to ON through the customize function using the Techstream (the default setting is OFF).

(a) Check that all power windows operate as follows when operating the transmitter:

13. CHECK POWER WINDOW REGULATOR SWITCH LED ILLUMINATION

(a) Inspect the power window regulator switch LED illumination for each seat when turning the window lock switch on/off.

(1) Driver seat:

  1. When the window lock switch is on, check that all LEDs of the multiplex network master switch turn off except for the LED of the switch corresponding to the driver seat.
  2. When the window lock switch is off, check that all LEDs of the multiplex network master switch turn on.

(2) Front passenger, rear left and rear right seats:

  1. When the window lock switch is on, check that the power window regulator switch LED of each seat turns off.
  2. When the window lock switch is off, check that the power window regulator switch LED of each seat turns on.
