Toyota 4Runner: Problem Symptoms Table

PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE

HINT:

  • Use the table below to help determine the cause of problem symptoms. If multiple suspected areas are listed, the potential causes of the symptoms are listed in order of probability in the "Suspected Area" column of the table. Check each symptom by checking the suspected areas in the order they are listed. Replace parts as necessary.
  • Inspect the fuses and relays related to this system before inspecting the suspected areas below.

NOTICE:

When replacing the master cylinder or sensor, turn the ignition switch off.

Vehicle Stability Control System

Symptom

ABS, BA and/or EBD does not operate

Check for DTCs again and make sure that no DTC is output


IG power source circuit


Front speed sensor circuit


Rear speed sensor circuit


Master cylinder pressure sensor (check master cylinder pressure sensor by performing test mode inspection)


Check hydraulic brake booster with Techstream. If abnormal, check hydraulic circuit for leakage.


If symptoms still occur even after above circuits in suspected areas are inspected and proved to be normal, replace master cylinder solenoid


ABS, BA and/or EBD does not operate efficiently

Check for DTCs again and make sure that no DTC is output


Front speed sensor circuit


Rear speed sensor circuit


Stop light switch circuit


Master cylinder pressure sensor (check master cylinder pressure sensor by performing test mode inspection)


Check hydraulic brake booster with Techstream. If abnormal, check hydraulic circuit for leakage.


If symptoms still occur even after above circuits in suspected areas are inspected and proved to be normal, replace master cylinder solenoid


VSC and/or TRAC does not operate

Check for DTCs again and make sure that no DTC is output


IG power source circuit


Front speed sensor circuit


Rear speed sensor circuit


Yaw rate and acceleration sensor circuit


Steering angle sensor circuit


If symptoms still occur even after above circuits in suspected areas are inspected and proved to be normal, replace master cylinder solenoid


Sensor and switch signal check cannot be performed

TS and CG terminal circuit


Master cylinder solenoid (skid control ECU)


DTC check cannot be performed

Check for DTCs again and make sure that no DTC is output


TC and CG terminal circuit


IG power source circuit (high power supply voltage malfunction)


If symptoms still occur even after above circuits in suspected areas are inspected and proved to be normal, replace master cylinder solenoid


ABS warning light abnormal (Remains on)

ABS warning light circuit


IG power source circuit (high power supply voltage malfunction)


Master cylinder solenoid (skid control ECU)


ABS warning light abnormal (Does not come on)

ABS warning light circuit

BRAKE warning light abnormal (Remains on)
